Bio-lubricating base oil from castor oil (Ricinous communus)

چکیده
Production and characterization of bio lubricating base oil from non-edible castor seed has been studied. Castor was extracted by solvent extraction method. KOH catalyzed transesterification process used to produce bio-lubricating oil. Ethanol as alcohol in the process. Optimum condition for production 40% ethanol, 0.45% at 75oC reaction time 90 min. yield 98%. Important properties produced like acid value (0.58 mg KOH/g), flash point (235oC), density (0.890 g/cc), pour (-15oC) viscosity (131.90 16.5 cSt 40 100 oC respectively) etc. were analyzed. The found be analogues conventional commercial This renewable could an attractive environment friendly alternative petroleum sources. Bangladesh J. Sci. Ind. Res. 57(1), 7-14, 2022

Lubricating Oil Additives
1.1 Lubrication (Rizvi, 2009) The principle of supporting a sliding load on a friction reducing film is known as lubrication (Ludema, 1996). The substance of which the film is composed is a lubricant, and to apply it is to lubricate. These are not new concepts, nor, in their essence, particularly involved ones. Farmers lubricated the axles of their ox carts with animal fat centuries ago. But mo...

Castor oil plant seeds (Ricinus communis L.) were grown in spent lubricating oil (SLO) contaminated soil at concentrations of 1-6% (w/w, oil/soil). Plant height and stem girth were depressed by spent lubricating oil at concentrations of 2% (w/w) and above. One percent (1%) spent lubricating oil in soil promoted growth of plants when compared with control. Fresh and dry weights of R. communis pl...
متن کاملBiodegradation of Polyurethane Derived from Castor Oil
The aim of this research was to study the biodegradation of a polymer derived from castor oil, which is a renewable, natural material that is a practical alternative for the replacement of traditional polyurethane foams. Due to its molecular structure, which contains polyester segments derived from vegetable oil, the polymeric surface is susceptible to microorganism attack. This study tested th...
